The Car Seat Lady - Installation of your Car Seat.

Last week I called on The Car Seat Lady. to help me install my car seats correctly. With newborn Twins, I wanted to make sure it was done correctly. After searching online, I found an article written up about this service in the New Yorker Magazine. About 10 minutes after I emailed the car seat lady, she responded back to me about her services.

Long story short, I met her in her Upper West side Neighborhood. I was told to bring the car seats, the bases and 4 towels. ( The Towels were to be used in the event the base needed more stabilization for newborns. Turns out I didn't need to use them. )

Car Seat Lady ( her name is Emily ) was waiting for me, ready to give me the Official NHTSA- child passenger training. It was excellent. I was soaking in all the information. Some of the info she spoke about was :

1) The best car seat for your child and your vehicle
2) When your child is ready for a booster seat
3) How to use a car seat in a taxi
4) How to use a car seat on an airplane
5) Why rear-facing is safer than forward facing
6) How to pick a safe vehicle

After we went over this info, we went into the installation phase. It was here which I learned how to install my base of the car seat correctly. An hour Later, I was on my way with 2 safe car seat bases installed. I learned both the American and European way to properly install the car seats.

My point here is that 85% of most car seats are installed incorrectly which is the leading cause of infant injury. Understanding the correct way to install your infants car seats should be a priority. Check the side of the car seat to make sure the seat is balanced on the base. Also, make sure the seat is secured where their is no wiggle room. ( to do it right, you really need some muscle to tighten correctly )

Please take some time and visit the Car Seat Lady web site. There you will find accurate up to date information from NHTSA-Cetified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and Instructors about how to keep your most precious cargo Safe.
