Similac Baby Formula Voluntarily Recalled By Abbott Labs - May 26, 2007
On Friday, Abbott's Ross Products Division announced a voluntary recall of three lots, about 5000 cases of two-ounce bottles of Similac Special Care Ready-to-Feed Premature Infant Formula with Iron.
The recall is based on the fact that the formula does not contain as much iron as it indicates on the label.
Abbot states that premature infants who are fed this formula for more than a month after discharged from the hospital could have an increased risk of developing anemia.
Similac Special Care Premature Infant Formula is a highly specialized formula used by premature infants for a limited amount of time after discharge from the hospital. The impacted product is not used in hospital settings.
